Driving From Carmel, CA To McWay Falls Through Big Sur
McWay Falls is an 80-foot-tall (24 m) waterfall on the coast of Big Sur in central California that flows year-round from McWay Creek in Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, about 37 miles (60 km) south of Carmel, into the Pacific Ocean. During high tide, it is a tidefall, a waterfall that empties directly into the ocean. The only other tidefall in California is Alamere Falls.

Do you sit inside the car all during the trip?
No, you can exit vehicle as soon as its parked on ferry. We bring food and drinks to enjoy while sitting on upper deck enjoying the ride and view. The ferry actually has food and drinks available for purchase. You will hear announcements right before docking advising drivers to return to vehicles to exit ship.
You can. But you can also go up to the other decks on the ship. They announce when you need to go back down to your car a few minutes ahead.

There are Pros & Cons when comparing the 2 drives into North Conway. Coming from Portland is very rural and you don't get to see many small towns, lakes or anything really except woods. Driving from Manchester is a good bit of Interstate but it does have some scenery after getting outside Manchester, but the drive takes you by many lakes and towns such as Lake Winnipesaukee and the small towns are more interesting than woods IMHO
